...about DVD-RW ("dash RW")

DVD-RW (DVD ReWritable Media) is an interesting form of DVD disc.

This re-writable disc format utilizes the 4.7 Gigabyte storage space of the DVD disc for computer data of any kind. It is also possible to create a working DVD-VIDEO project on an R/W disc, as well, but -RW discs seem to be less compatible than -R or +R discs.

These discs are written, like DVD-Rs, using a special DVD-RW burner.

Pioneer DVR-110/A110 is the newest 4.7 GB DVD-R/RW Drive for General Media. This Drive is currently shipping and available through Pioneer Distributors.

DVD-RW media is also used in the new Settop DVD disc recorders from Pioneer - the PRV-9000 is a direct DVD disc recorder, replacing the VHS VCR with digital disc recording. Newer recorders include models from Panasonic (DVD-RAM) and Philips (DV+R), to name just a few.
