Multiplexing is one of the last steps in creating your finished DVD. Before your project can play in a DVD set-top player, or in your DVD-equipped computer, you must first re-arrange the AUTHORED ASSETS so they are properly INTERLEAVED for DVD playback.
What does this do? - Interleaving the ASSETS allows the DVD's laser pickup to properly re-assemble the digitized video, audio and subtitle bits into the desired program. The only way you could select from more than one audio program, or subtitle is to have them all available for playback - the MULTIPLEXING step prepares the data correctly to make this possible.
Do I have to mux? - Yup! Ya Gotta! However, depending on your authoring software, you may NOT need to create a disc image file before you Mux.
