The Digital Guy blog
Bits and pieces about technology - DVD, BD, web, etc.
Making music is one of many things I have done in my life, and it's
always been a strong influence, So I am pleased to report for fans of my
music (www.dagnome.net ) that I
have a new weekly radio show, which airs every Monday afternoon from 4-6
PM PST, 7-9 PM EST.
Aired through London-based Solar Radio, the
Digital Guy radio show will feature the musical side of my life; meaning, new and old music I like, tracks I have produced, performed on, great new music, etc.
Classic Soul and R&B is a big part of my life, and I'll have a
chance to explore it more fully on the radio show, as well as contemporary ("smooth") jazz.
You can tune it
in live Mondays in the USA 4-6 PM PST, 7-9 PM EST (that's 00:00 - 02:00 Tuesday mornings in the UK.
The opening show will give you a vision of what to expect, as it's full
of lots of great music I have grown to love over the years.
IDMA will be exhibiting at Government Video Expo (GV Expo) on December 2,3, in Washington D.C. We will once again be demonstrating how to harness the power of Blu-ray video and publish BD discs without having to get bogged down in expensive licensing and replication; we will also have some special guest presenters at the IDMA booth (#349) so and some VERY special gifts for those who choose to join IDMA on the spot! IDMA SPECIAL EVENT at GV EXPO - as we did with DV Expo, IDMA will hold a VERY special event on Weds Dec 2, from 5:30 PM in Room 204C of the Washington Convention center. Take some time to relax after walking the show floor, and catch up on the very latest in digital media topics from the comfort of your chair.
This will be the year that Hollywood and the CE industry attempt to finally embed Blu-ray into the consumers' consciousness, and they're going to do it with the MOST aggressive pricing we have yet seen. This bodes well for those of us who have been evangelizing publication on BD-ROM, as it may swell the ranks of those who can actually VIEW the great stuff you guys will be creating (or have created already).
There WILL be (count on it) a BOATLOAD of Blu-ray players on sale come this week and especially this coming (Black) Friday.
In casually perusing the advance notice of sale prices, I once again note, with some small alarm, that the cheapest players are NOT BD-Live capable - BUT there IS one small ray of sunshine!
Apparently, there is a $99 INSIGNIA player that will be on sale at Best Buy that includes not only BD-Live, but also streaming capability as well! http://www.videobusiness.com/article/CA6707870.html?nid=4756&source=link&rid=5998531 THAT is the cheapest player I have seen that includes ALL of the advanced technology aspects of the BD spec.
Please spread the word to LOOK BEYOND PRICE when contemplating a BD player purchase - look for CAPABILITIES that ALLOW you to participate in the most advanced BD technology.
Of course, NONE of these players yet have Managed Copy! And I can't vouch for how the picture looks on the $99 Insignia ;-)
(It's always something, innit?)
In response to requests that my e-book be made available in printed form, I have arranged with Amazon Create Space to offer the SAME IDENTICAL book as the e-book as a Print-on-Demand hard copy. For only $19.99 (plus shipping), Amazon will print it for you, and deliver it right to your door.
Here's the URL: https://www.createspace.com/3399164
If you prefer PDF, you can buy the e-book at TheDigitalGuy.com store.
The regular price is now $14.95. Many thanks to all those who purchased at the discounted earl bird price! One of you will be a site membership winner, which I will announce here, on Sept 21st! If you haven't purhcased yet, here's a quick review from Philip Hodgetts, the President of Intelligent Assistance: "Bruce Nazarian nails Blu-ray for the majority of people: people who need to get a disc out to customers or producers without spending a lifetime learning. Instead a lifetime of learning for The Digital Guy has been summarized into an easy-to-follow fast-path to getting the outcome. Better still, he's priced it so it's a no-brainer decision to buy."

IT'S FINALLY FINISHED! After weeks of feverish work the book is complete - all that remains is to tighten up the cover artwork, get the ISBN barcode happening, and create the finished downloadable package. I've ADDED THE TABLE OF CONTENTS TO THIS DOCUMENT, so click Read More to view what the book contains! It's LOT of information, and packed with graphics to show you EXACTLY what and where to click, setp- by-step. The sample is still free for registered users (even free registered users)
I originally published this in August of last year, but in June 2009, fees for AACS were reduced dramatically, and I've been meaning to update this for a while - BCN
For many who are new to Blu-ray Disc (BD), the bewildering selection of licenses and fees are causing a lot of confusion. Unlike DVD, which had a fairly loose approach to licenses for content creators, there ARE some Blu-ray licenses that may not be obvious to all, even those who are experienced in DVD! I'll spend this post clarifying what you may be expect of licensing for BD usage.
I've been working hard on changing over our branding from Recipe4DVD to the new The Digital Guy" ----> It's looking likely that the changeover will take place on October 1st. I'll keep you posted on the website - We will relaunch with a whole new look, and a bunch more great stuff! Thanks for your support!
Some users (myself included) have reported that Blu-ray Discs created with Toast 10 (and BD on DVD as well) currently have problems properly displaying the menus properly on SOME Blu-ray Players. I've extensively reported on this bug to Roxio (Sonic) and have been assured they are aware of it, and are fixing it, but as of yet (August 22) no specific date has been set for the release of 10.0.3, which should fix it. Thanks to our list member Richard Llewellyn, who has researched this topic on his own, and on the Roxio Support website (with thanks to "innerscape" and others there), here's a current list (possibly incomplete) of players that DO and DO NOT support menus from Toast 10.0, 10.0.1, and 10.0.2:
The download info is right on the home page! Free to download for all; but you need to be registered here (and that's free for a week, if you don't want to join at this time)
