Well, under some circumstances, not, but read further...

> Toast Titanium is no big deal, but what in the world am I getting into? Where can I buy Toast?

Toast is primo CD/DVD burning software, and I think,
INDISPENSIBLE if you are going to work with optical
media on the Macintosh.
You can buy Toast through http://www.roxio.com

> It looks like I would need to use some other authoring software instead of iMovie.

Well, let's be clear - iMovie is EDITING software, and you need something ELSE to make a DVD, something MORE than just TOAST.

You can easily make the VIDEO part of your movie with iMovie,
as it is a COOL piece of software, and getting more power each rev.

To make a DVD from this, though, (bad news alert)
You CANNOT make a DVD without some DVD AUTHORING SOFTWARE -
many beginners on the Mac use iDVD, and that is what it is designed for, BUT - (BIG BUT HERE) iDVD will ONLY work with an INTERNAL APPLE SUPERDRIVE (or, an internal Pioneer DVR-A03,A04,A05 possibly even A06).

Your TDK is a DVD+ (dvd-"plus") format drive, and is ONLY supported by TOAST, or DVD Studio Pro, You could buy Toast today, but you would STILL NOT HAVE A WAY TO MAKE A DVD.

What I would recommend is purchasing iLife from Apple,
for $49 I think, which includes iDVD, and also purchase
a Pioneer A06 drive for Internal Mount - replacing
whatever optical drive you already have in your Mac.

The A06 is under $300, and can easily be installed in your
G4 or G5 Power Mac tower (not a Powerbook though).

ONCE the A06 is installed, you can install iLife, and
start living your digital hub fanatise for real!
You're almost there, and today it is VERY cost-effective.

You can keep the External TDK drive, and use it to make copies,
or to archive your hard drive data using Toast, but you
CANNOT use it tomake DVDs on a Mac directly from iDVD or DVDSP!.
