While the original QuickTime MPEG2 encoder has been workable since its introduction in January 2001, many DVD projects could benefit from more control or better encoding of complex video content. The new MPEG2 encoder from Apple, just shown off at NAB should fix this - I saw some high-movement bright color football content that was encoded at 3.5 Mbps with the new QuickTime MPEG encoder, and it really was superb!
Still waiting to see the finished user interface (for public comment) but as soon as possible I'll try to being you new info on this greatly improved MPEG2 encoder.
