I have noticed that when my menus 'reset' after a loop that they go back to
the default item. Is there a way for the DVD to 'remember' what item on the
menu the user is on so that it doesn't reset?

Yes - turn off the "default button" property for that menu. If you leave the
default button set, the menu MUST reset to that button when the menu
loops back.
